Ken Cross: Church Planter

Ken and Lynn Cross
Ken Cross was one of four boys raised by a single mother in Birmingham, Alabama. He lost his Dad at six years old due to a terminal illness. Someone at the funeral said, “God needed your Dad.” That didn’t sit well with Ken and it affected him adversely for many years. It was not until someone spent time with Ken as a young man was he willing to hear about God’s love. Then God opened his heart and mind and changed Ken from the inside out. God is still doing that in fact.

Some of these changes included calling Ken into ministry. He has been a youth pastor, an assistant pastor, an associate pastor, a solo pastor, a senior pastor, and a church planter in numerous states and size churches. There has been one constant - Ken’s passion for people while enjoying God.

Sixteen years ago, Ken started a church in Southern Pines, NC and pastored it as it grew to an average attendance of 450.

Now God and Central Carolina Presbytery have called Ken and his family to start another church, this one from scratch. It will be called, ADVENT CHURCH.

Ken has made some good decisions in his life, one if the best was marrying Lynn. Together they have five children. Katie McKenzie is living in Columbia, SC with her husband Michael. Oliver is a senior at Wingate University. Margaret is a sophomore at Covenant College. Karen is a Sr. In High School. Rebekah is in the eight grade.

Ken is in the process of moving to Steele Creek and should be settled in early summer of 2009. His main task at this point is to raise funds for this adventure of faith called “church planting.” If you would like to contribute click on this link.
